Sharing the Upper Peninsula in Washington, D.C.
Apr 21, 2010 | Leave a comment
This week I headed to Washington D.C. as part of my quest to have a beer with Richard Branson. One of the biggest inspirations for Yooper Steez was telling everyone about the Upper Peninsula and the Great Lakes while on my 50-state road trip. I still love to share it with people everywhere I go. So before heading out I thought I’d update the Yooper Steez Facebook Page …
“I’ll be spreading my Upper Peninsula love and knowledge in the Washington D.C. this week :-) What should I tell them about the U.P.?”
I was impressed to see 40+ comments and thought they really provided a lot of great insight to what people think about the Upper Peninsula.
I wanted to share them with all the Yooper Steez readers in case you didn’t see them on the Facebook Page. Feel free to add to the comments on Facebook or add one here.
And thanks for all the comments and likes on the Facebook page, keep them coming and feel free to share the Facebook Page with others.

If you have not already, check out {Under the Radar Michigan). It has a very nice article about Marquette with comments following describing its beauty and tranquility. It also mentions that Marquette was voted a 2010 Dozen Distinctive Destinations Fan Favorite. I LOVE the U.P.!!!!!

The U.P. is like no other place in the world. As soon as you step foot on the land and meet the people you know you have truly found “someplace special.” Where else can you get a pasty, “pank” the snow, wear your swampers, take a sauna and then jump into the clearest, cleanest and one of the largest bodies of fresh water in the world, and sleep with your windows open at night and hear nothing but peace and quiet (and the occasional skunk or bear digging around for food)?

Oh, hey…don’t tell anyone of the magnificent beauty of the U.P., the majesty of the forests, the breath-taking lakes and falls…Just leave it in its magical state. My family and I own land in the middle of the U.P. and travel to it all Spring, Summer, and Fall, until we can’t get back to the property through the snow, but every trip shows us new beauty and surprises. It will never grow old…it is the best-kept secret of the U.S….shhhh, don’t tell anyone. Let’s keep it between us……
